I did enjoy this book. The plotting was good as was the narration. The author was able to hold my interest. What was a little off was that this seemed like an early draft of the book, not the final version. The skeleton was in place, but there was no flesh on the bones - no depth to the story, no emotion anywhere. The protagonist finds out something shocking about a close relative possibly being involved in a dastardly crime and he shrugs his shoulders. No emotion, no sense of urgency. Everything was ho hum. This book had the potential to be so much better. If the author can learn to weave in honest emotion into the narration, she'll have a winner on her hands

Secrets Can Be Deadly Nancy Roe 9780985925727 Books Reviews
The characters were well done, not too much distracting with looks, and a nice light amount of place descriptions. I would have enjoyed it even more if the genealogy chart had been before story, full first names didn't have to be on the chart. This wouldn't have killed the suspense , but it would have helped me keep track of who was who, even more into the story.
I would recommend this book, but I would start at the end with the chart ...unless you think it would give away something for you.
I thought the author was very clever and imaginative in how she wove the two story lines together until they intersected. If not for some loose ends and the lack of most of the characters' descriptions (what did they look like-- age, tall, short, thin, fat, dark-haired, blond, eye color, etc.?) which made it hard for me to imagine them, I thought this was a well-plotted book. The author has potential and I look forward to reading her next books.
Unusual storyline, very macabre, not to my liking at all. Lots of grammar errors not well edited, I cannot really say this was a good book, but it may appeal to audiences who like killing just for the sake of it!
I thought this book was really good. It did have some grammatical errors, but not enough to make it impossible to enjoy. It really kept my attention from start to finish and I was over halfway through the book before the lightbulb went off in my head and I realized who Sam was in relation to Mason. The story was intense. I wish there could've been some redemption for Sam in the end, some turn of events that would turn her life around, some happiness for her sad life. But, (sigh), it was not to be.
Stayed up late to read this book, then had to go back to re-read first chapter to see how I missed clues. Good characters who were not fully developed, but that made for a quick read. Sometimes, when the storyline is strong, I don't care what anybody is wearing or what color their eyes are. Just want to mention in this review, there is a total lack of sexual innuendo, a fact that might be important to some. Well done, Ms. Roe, I'll be on the lookout for more of your work.
Brother and sister separated at early age each thinking the other has died makes for excitement, mystery and murders in the search for the truth. This book will keep you reading well into the night following the clues. I really enjoyed the suspense and was quickly brought into the story. If you are a suspense, mystery fan without all of the unnecessary bad language and sex scenes then you must read "Secrets Can be Deadly". Nancy Roe has written all of the necessary elements into this and you will not be disappointed.
One of the better books I've read - I rarely read past my bedtime but with this book, I did. And the author did a good job of running two stories separated by many years that eventually merge. I'm still a little confused about how some of the family were related despite the family tree at the end (too small on my ereader screen) but otherwise enjoyed the book.
